Whenever someone asks me for a recommendation for a great place to stay in Europe for the New Year, I always steer them in the direction of somewhere cheap. After all, traveling is all about experiencing different cultures and experiences, and there’s nothing more fulfilling than doing so on a budget. This year, I’m happy to say that my suggestion still holds true—although it might be a little harder to find. If you want to enjoy an incredible new year in 2022 without breaking the bank, here are a few places to consider.
Paris
If you’re looking to spend your New Year in an incredible city, look no further than Paris! Not only is the city home to some of the most iconic sights and sounds in all of Europe, but it’s also a budget-friendly destination that won’t break the bank. Whether you’re looking for a trendy neighborhood to stay in or want to explore some of the more popular tourist spots, Paris has something for everyone.
To get started, there are a few neighborhoods you can consider staying in: The Canal Saint-Martin area is a popular choice for budget-minded travelers thanks to its abundance of hostels and restaurants. If you’re looking for something bit more luxurious, head over to the Marais district or Place des Vosges. And if you’re feeling adventurous, why not consider staying in one of Paris’ hidden gems? There are plenty of charming villages located just outside the city limits that offer beautiful countryside views and unbeatable deals on accommodations.
Whatever neighborhood you choose, be sure to explore as much as possible. Just steps away from many of Paris’ famous attractions are smaller boutiques and cafes that offer unique experiences unavailable elsewhere in the city. Whether it’s grabbing a quick bite at a street cafe or exploring an entire quarter off the beaten path, spending your New Year in Paris will be unforgettable.
Barcelona
If you’re looking to celebrate New Year’s in Europe without breaking the bank, Barcelona is a great option. While the city is known for its vibrant nightlife and stunning architecture, it’s also reasonably priced when compared to other major European cities. You can stay in budget-friendly hostels or Airbnb apartments, and still enjoy all the sights and sounds of this lively city. Here are some of our favorite recommendations for where to stay in Barcelona during New Year’s:
1. Hostal La Caixa is a fantastic budget option that offers private rooms and shared bathrooms with free Wi-Fi. It’s situated minutes away from the buzzing nightlife of Ramblas and Placa de Catalunya, making it an ideal spot if you want to explore both areas without spending a fortune.
2. AirBnB has become synonymous with affordable accommodation around the world, and Barcelona is no exception. From chic penthouses in the trendy Ciutat Vella district to cozy homes near Placa Reial, there are plenty of options for budget-minded visitors on Airbnb.
3. If you’re looking for something more luxurious than a hostel or Airbnb apartment, consider staying at one of Barcelona’s top hotels like The Ritz Carlton or Clarissima Palace Hotel Spa & SPA Barraqueros Golf Club Resort. Both offer fantastic views of the cityscape and opulent facilities such as spas, gyms, restaurants, and lounges.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a beautiful city and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. It’s known for its canals and its lively nightlife, but it’s also a great place to stay if you’re on a budget. There are plenty of cheap hotel options, as well as Airbnb rentals, which make it easy to find a place to stay without breaking the bank. Here are some tips for staying in Amsterdam on a budget:
1. Start by checking online for deals. There are often big discounts available online before you even book your room.
2. Consider staying in an area near the center of town. This will be more expensive than staying out in the suburbs, but it will also be much more convenient and enjoyable.
3. Don’t forget about hostels! Hostels are often much cheaper than traditional hotels, and they offer a lot of the same amenities (like breakfast). Just be sure to research which ones have the best deals before booking anything!
Copenhagen
If you’re looking for a place to ring in the New Year while staying on a budget, Copenhagen is definitely worth considering. The city is home to some great deals on hotel rooms and rental apartments, making it an excellent option for travelers on a tight budget.
One of the best things about Copenhagen is that it’s an incredibly walkable city. This means that there’s hardly any need for car rental or public transportation when exploring the area. Plus, because many of Copenhagen’s attractions are located in close proximity to each other, walking is usually the quickest way to get around town.
Here are some of the best places to stay in Copenhagen if you’re looking for accommodation that won’t break the bank:
1) Airbnb: If you’re not familiar with Airbnb, it’s basically an online platform where people can rent out spare bedrooms, apartments and other rooms in their homes. This can be a great way to find affordable lodging while in Copenhagen. One thing to keep in mind is that most Airbnb rentals in Copenhagen are located outside of the central tourist areas, so make sure to read reviews before traveling to ensure you get a good deal.
2) Hotel Krone: Located just minutes from downtown Copenhagen, Hotel Krone is perfect for budget-minded travelers who want something cozy and convenient for their stay. The hotel offers reasonable rates and nice amenities like free Wi-Fi and a lobby bar open until late night.
Prague
Prague is a city that oozes history, and it can be a bit expensive to stay there during the normal tourist season. However, during New Year’s Eve, many of the city’s hotels go on sale for significantly reduced rates. There are also plenty of budget-friendly options available if you’re willing to search for them.
One great option is to stay in a hostel. Hostels can be found all over the city and cost anywhere from $10 to $20 per night. They’re also great places to meet other travelers and make new friends. Another option is to stay with locals. This can be done through online listings or by asking around at local bars or cafes. These spots usually offer rooms for around $25 per night.
If you plan on drinking a lot, then it might be worth spending a bit more money on accommodation. Hotels in Prague typically charge around $50 per night for single rooms, and up to $100 per night for a room with an ensuite bathroom. Alternately, you can check out some of the more exclusive neighbourhoods in the city and find private apartments that rent for as little as $60 per night.
